It's the element of personal contact. Over the phone one can speak to a real human being and make a decision based on the feedback one gets from that person.

On the Internet, one just talks to a machine, with no feedback and with little knowledge of the security system of the website or how one's credit card number is being processed.

Many people do not trust machines. Of course there is good reason to distrust many people as well. (:>)

Chuck R is right about folks and their foibles about on-line credit card use. I suggest it is a matter of culture. For us boomers we all were drilled to tear up the carbon so bad folks wouldn't get ripped. My folks would never (and still never) give numbers over the phone...everything by snail... My high school daughter uses the net as we did the library and will for purchases if she ever gets a job and a credit card. I think TSIG is posturing correctly with both on-line and telephone. I would also suggest that international ordering will come. My travels in Asia show greater distrust of c. cards, but that is changing and when it does...explosion for those who are ready. Kekoa
