The Atom Cooling Group at the Rowland Institute.

Research reported in the 2/18/99 issue of the journal Nature describes how light was slowed to ~38 mph by shooting a laser through a Bose-Einstein condensate of sodium atoms, which worked like 'optical molasses'.

Maybe the Nature paper will arrive here someday:
