Happpppyyyyy Holllidays to all and especially to you, jack! Jack's email address mrpg13a@swbell.net worked a couple of weeks ago. Let's all try it again. My wife says this is not the time of year to be negative and that she will terminate my computer privileges (it's her computer) if I can't come up with something more positive than yesterday. After all, she says, the Crawfords are a very nice family, and they are doing their upmost to keep our railroad operation moving ahead. Therefore, the following news from the nyrr.com web site bears repeating so that everyone remembers that progress, though slow, continues. >>>>November 1998 - As a follow up to an agreement reached several weeks ago between NYRR and Stockton Transmodal Inc. East, a third party entity called Liberty Transmodal Inc. was formed. This entity will be responsible for coordinating the establishment of transmodal and bulk operations at the Railroad's Bush Terminal, NY and Greenville, NJ facilities. The Railroad will work with STI East to market the service to STI's existing transmodal customer base. An unusual oversize and dimensional load was handled in conjunction with Lomma, Inc. for Westinghouse. The railcar utilized was a brand new 8 axle unit capable of handling 230 tons. The Railroad signed a new agreement with Norfolk Southern to market rail service into NY City. October 1998 - NYRR, in conjunction with NYCH, has entered into a rail freight terminal handling agreement with STI East, Inc., an affiliate of Stockton Transmodal Inc. (STI) to develop and handle both inbound and outbound intermodal and bulk rail freight for the greater NY/NJ metro region. Currently STI handles 90% of all Fortune 500 companies that ship products by transbulk through the US. NYCH was listed as a finalist in Railway Age Magazine's Shortline of the Year Contest. October 21-23, 1998, W.R. Bentley, President of NYCH, served as a panelist at the National Conference on Cocoa Transportation and Logistics, Mr. Bentley delivered a presentation on the subject of the bulk movement of cocoa beans. Alco S4 #11 has been repainted to match our new color scheme - look for it in the waterfront streets of Brooklyn. NYCH, in conjunction with the Port Authority of NY/NJ and online warehousing and stevedoring customers, developed a unique transportation system to now handle 57% of the nation's cocoa supply. NYCH has dedicated two car floats to service this requirement. Mr. James White was appointed to the NYRR Board of Directors. Rail, tie and timber renewal continues in our commitment to steadily update and expand our infrastructure. Cross Harbor's track gang heads back to Greenville this Fall after completing Brooklyn projects. NORAC Rules have now replaced NYCH's aging Operating Rules. <<<<
