Fujitsu Trims DRAM Production

Fujitsu <TOKYO:6702> aims to reduce its reliance on the unstable
DRAM market by halving the amount of general-use DRAMs produced
in-house. The company will instead outsource the work to Taiwan
Semiconductor Manufacturing, probably before FY00.
This plan will complement the agreement recently forged with
Toshiba <TOKYO:6502> to jointly develop a 1G DRAM, which will not only
lessen the company's dependence on DRAM operations but also trim
associated expenses because the two companies will share the cost
of massive investment required for mass-production facilities.
FY99 investment in chip-related facilities will probably be
around 80 billion yen, on a par with FY98, which was half of that
allocated in FY97.

I figured he looked at ttm sales of 14.14/share and judged that perhaps a multiple of two times this figure was justified. When he went to punch this into his calculator, he hit the wrong key and instead of multiplying 14.14 times 2, he raised 14.14 to the second power. <ggg>
