Nihil,

CSCO has demonstrated exceptional ability of assimilating start-ups and their cutting edge technologies. But swallowing up a dinosaur is an entirely different story. That's why John Chambers has tried at all costs to avoid mega mergers like what happened to BAY and COMS--a temporary paralysis at the very least.

And I disagree with the view that CSCO is neither soft nor hard, I happen to think they are both, having the powerful IOS and widest range of networking hardwares on top of an ever expanding installed base.

Nice part about internet discussions is that there is no need to agree, and I am a fan of all your posts.

Re: Cisco and NT

Would you agree or disagree with this statement from the Lehman report on the NT acquisition of Cambrian?

"...the new Nortel Networks now offers the most complete product
line in the communications industry, ranging form desktop switching to
optical networking products."

Does NT have a "more complete product line in the communications industry" than either Cisco or Lucent?
