I can't argue with you about the POLITICAL reality, but I truly believe that there are Republicans in Congress that think letting a perjury go unpunished will be more harmful for the country ultimately. That's why I honestly don't believe it's "get Clinton", the media and the polls (if they are right) make impeachment a principled stand. It really comes down to political expediency or upholding the rule of law.

It would be so easy for them to "do the censure thing" and leave the status quo, but I've spoken with my attorney (also a judge) about this on several occasions and he has told me that it is absolutely imperative that Clinton at least be impeached, if for no other reason than the symbolism. The majority of the American people believe he committed perjury and what concerns my attorney is that he thinks the relative indifference shown by the people toward this crime is frightening.

Well, I agree with bp that Republicans genuinely believe this shouldn't be a pass for anyone, rather than simply wanting to get Clinton. Nevertheless, you could be right, politically, that they shouldn't do this. But since 30 some percent believe they are right to do it- their base- who are mainly disgusted with what he did with a young intern not much older than his own daughter is now, they would be cutting their base right off if they didn't. I like your thinking because I think if they did it your way, it would be darn positive for the near term growth of the Libertarian Party! YIPPIE YI AY! VBG
