The purpose is to see if your position has any basis to it. The constitution says this.

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

The constitution leaves a broad interpretation of " High crimes and Misdemeanors." It does not say " Direct threat to our nation."

<<What I will do is say that I do not believe -- nor do I think any reasonable person believes -- that Clinton poses a direct threat to our nation.>>

I also do not pose a threat to our nation. Should I be allowed to commit perjury without punishment?
