Please humor me for a moment................... Let me just throw something out there. Totally HYPothetical. Lets forget about fundamentals, valuation(or lack thereof), projections, growth, etc, etc, etc. Do we all know by now that practically the whole sector is in a short squeeze???!!! Assume there is an aggressive, opportunistic capitalist with unlimited cash.(Oh, c'mon, I know there's a few.) He may even have a couple of pals. (Okay, doubtful). Consider YHOO. From reading the thread, it is obvious that YHOO(like the others) has been a screaming short candidate for months and months. The conventional wisdom is "this stock is overvalued, I'm going short." The astute capitalist recognizes the sentiment and takes temperature. He determines the market cap, float and short posti.....HOLY *%&* Theres over 11 million short. The float is only 8 million!(just a guess). He pulls out his calculator(doesn't leave home without it). Price 100 Float 8 mill. Short 11 mill. 8 x 100 = 800 mill. x 30% = 240 mill. For 240 mills. he can buy as many shares as are in the float, and force all the shorters to come clean. But wait. What if the major shareholders release more stock into the float? That could ruin everything. He would have to consult them. No problem, since he owns 30% of the company! He may even call his pals.(allright, thats pushing it). I can just hear the conversation......."the whole NASDAQ is littered with em!!"... I get the feeling that the people that are making this stock move couldn't care less about its prospects in the long term. There is money to be made NOW. Can we really believe that small investors have just flocked to this stock daily and have caused this meteoric rise? ITS A GAME NOW! It won't end till someone is good and ready. What do you think? Total sci-fi?
