Alan - don't know who he was polling, just saw the graph on CNN, but don't think it contradicts what you say. Lowest in 14 years, so it was higher when Bush was involved in Gulf War, but has been coming down ever since, and with what we have just observed is likely to go lower. I don't think we have seen the end of the GOPs internal problems and the publics disgust at what they have just done.

The best the GOP can hope for now is a quick resolution in the Senate, some kind of censure, this gets forgotten ASAP. and the new leadership of the GOP maps out an agenda that is more in line with the voters. The worst thing is to pursue the impeachment trial, loose it, and develop no agenda other than this puritanistic idealism while this guy Larry Flynt finds another 20 or so Republicans who aren't so pure.

With the Iraq affair over, progress on the world financial problems slowly developing, the Euro introduction which might bolster Europe economies, and more money coming into the RRSPs, perhaps a quick resolution to this impeachment, we might start off 1999 on a pretty good setting.
