"They speak Mandarin and say a few patriotic things about how happy they are about the handover, and then they rip you off."

A Beijing native on the sales tactics employed by struggling HK retailers trying to cash-in on shoppers from the mainland.

Tom,

HK retailers do not discriminate. If you go and visit, they will speak English and say a few pro US things about how great our country is, and then they rip you off. Also substitute word English with Japanese, French, German or ...... That has been the case for decades.

A Beijing native shouldn't complain, they are picking up all the HK high pressure sales tricks themselves.
