Re CPQ:
I bought a refurbished CPQ Deskpro about a year ago. It has the very annoying habit of performing an ILLEGAL OPERTION requiring shut down perhaps twice an hour.On Quote.com, about very 5 minutes.
I was not able to prevent it, despite reloading all software.I thought it had something to do
with using Navigator on Win 95, as there was talk about MS purposely
giving Netscape a 'hard time'. Not true, as I run that combo on a Dell with no problem
The 100mhz chip could not be replaced by plugging in a faster one like the AMD K6 or others, although it could be replaced on a Dell.
A week ago I removed the CD from the CPQ and tried to install it in another computer. Guess what, the signal cable had a unique fitting that would not match. So I assume if I want to replace a CD player in the CPQ, I would have to buy it from CPQ or do some soldering.
I can live without that proprietary crap. And bought a Dell
Optiplex at the company store in Austin

So yeah, the CPQ kind of works, buts its sitting on a chair upstairs
now.

Hi Jeff,
No, I was not impressed with anything about the Presario. Its always locking up on me and 3 times now I had to reload the original software. I have to constantly back up anything I do. ( I know I should do that anyhow, so maybe its good for me) I have had mixed results with customer service. They tell me its software conflicts. Microsoft Office is the only other software I have loaded ( other than the original package) Nobody else I know has problems like that on their Non Compaq systems. I paid an EXTREMELY high price at Comp USA , actually almost 3 years ago now. I learned my lesson the hard way. Lots of little annoying problems too.

JMO, but Compaq sucks! ( Can't wait to get my new Dell)

Good luck!

D.
