Thanks very much Zeuspaul,

I've been thinking for a long time about setting up my own screenable database of earnings reports. I used to get a version of Dow Jones News via the DTN Satellite company. Their "Earnings News" section delivered the day's earnings reports in column format--it was printable, but not a text file. I was thinking if I could convert it to text and then feed the columns into a spreadsheet I could have a very maleable database from which to find out-of-the-way stocks with earnings momentum. Then select them for a field of stocks to watch for volume increases, etc...

Of course nowadays with the internet craze, that idea is starting to seem a little blase', so I don't know, but I'm definitely going to check out OmniPage.

How about the phone conversation recorder?

Thanks again,
wily

ZP,

results vary depending on content type for me. With OmniPage Pro 7.0 and $1200 HP Scanner I have good luck scanning text docs. but technical specs present more of a challenge. Not counting charts and tables which can be problems. Trying to OCR Source Code and BNF (Bachhus Nor Format), its a formal lexical specification for the syntax of computer languages, yields unacceptable results for me even with 10 point fonts. The BNF stuff is the worse because all the lexical pattern match characters seem to have random errors that are sometimes hard to detect. I think in this case its still easier to type by hand. Obviously, it is a valuable and wide used technology by many folks. I have a friend who translates massive amounts of printed docs to web with this technology and is generally very pleased with the results.
