<<Sure Ish, I wish he could have kept it zipped too. Do you think the Clinton hatred industry would have gone quiet after a while then? >>

Not silent but not the mess it is now. Congress could have worked together and with Clinton to better handle the embassy bombings and the Iraqi problem.

<< I don't think Livingston should have resigned, but I don't question him on a personal level. Who needs it, when you can make big bucks as a lobbyist, talking head, and name on the inevitable ghosted political memoir?>>

You are right there. With Kennedy and Frank still in office it does seem a little unfair that he had to resign. Hell, Newt was really one of the calmest heads on this matter and look what happened to him. Newt was the one guy who might have pushed through a censure but he was too "mean".

Good part is Hastert from Illinois looks like the next speaker. Being from Illinois he must be a good guy. Actually even the democrats in Illinois like him.

I don't think Livingston should have resigned
I have heard that Livingston was going to retire last year. He was persuaded on the right by those who were afraid the republican majority would be gone, so they agreed to grant him a leadership post of some kind. He was also persuaded by those on the left who were worried that David Duke would become republican standard bearer for that district. They also agreed that if he would run one more time they would support him for a leading role (It was not clear that he would become speaker until Newt flew the coop). I wonder if he told any of them about the potential time bomb in his past?
