I agree that they have to a different challenge than with the captive audience of tv. And yes I hate it when a seperate window pops up unbidden as it slows down my already constrained connection. But with greater bandwidth, this will be less of a negative. And if the ad is successfull, and to me that would be that the ad has enough entertainment value that i get something from it, or it is about something I have an interest for, I will be less upset and more likely to continue at the site I am accustomed to frequent. If the they get rid of the pop up and utilize fancier banner ads containing more movement and possibly sound that lead you to a larger ad that has some madison avenue sizzle... I am saying that with greater bandwidth the choices expand for the advertisers and a middle ground can be struck between pissing off the user and attracting enough business to warrant paying for the ad. right now ads, even ones that I choose to click on are BORING and SLOW, which decrease their effectiveness.
