Alan - unfortunately it has been demonstrated about a 1000 times that it is for partisan gain, and for the life of me I cannot understand why they simply cannot understand that the public sees through this.

Will the Republicans just self destruct? Is there noone in that party to develop an agenda and get things out of the gutter?

If Clinton keeps his job, I believe the Asian crisis gets solved more quickly, and the introduction of the Euro will be managed. In the meantime gold stays down because it is tied into oil prices. So as the Asian economies recover, and oil prices rise as consumption increases from Asia, gold starts a comeback the degree to which in the shortterm depends likely more on the weather, and in the longterm on the amount of recovery of the Asian economies.

The majority of the French speaking Canadians do not wish to leave Canada. The debate in Canada is about Federal-Provincial power and the survival of the French culture. The "Separatist" parties have lobbied for "Sovereignty Association" which most accurately means more Provincial powers for Quebec and more power for provincial politicians. The majority of Quebec people do not even desire any more referendums on the issue.
And I believe if you were to look around you would find some of the world's largest "Crown Corporations" in your own back yard.
