thanks for info on the v.90. i an waiting for @home to come to my area and i keep thinking that maybe a 56 future modem will be just as fast but im dreaming. thanks

Greg, I think I've had better luck with the V.90 protocol than you. I routinely connect at 48K. and for the most part downloads are smooth (although they still seem to take an inordinate period of time).

check into the 3Com site and you can test out your
modem connection to their site.

You might have a flex56k v.90 instead of an x2 from 3Com
for all you know.

Also, make sure your ISP supports v.90 otherwise you
won't get the 56K speed. Pretty soon, all ISPs should
be using v.90.

Do a little research on it before you start jumping
to all sorts of conclusions.
