Hello to all on the thread. I've been a lurker on the thread over the last year and I have really appreciated the candor and thought provoking discussion. I have been adding to my position over the last 6 months in response to the drops in price that appear to be occurring just when the company is gaining some serious momentum as a result of its superior IPR.

I also wanted to mention to the thread that George Gilder once again mentioned Qualcomm as a key player in the development of a "new paradigm in computers and communications." His most recent kind words were in the December 1998 issue of the Gilder Technology Report.
According to Mr. Gilder the key parts of this new paradigm are "Java component software, CDMA wireless, cable modems (also increasingly CDMA), and All Optical Networks (AON)". With respect to Qualcomm specifically I quote Mr. Gilder: "Early bet for the most popular handheld computer product next year is the stunning pdQ phone with a Palm [Pilot] 3 operating system and wireless modem scalable to 2 megabits per second." I received the December 1998 issue on Friday, December 18th.

I can't help but think that Qualcomm may be a target for not only a hostile takeover at these levels but also a friendly business combination. I've noticed that Cisco's stock has continued to fly. Does anyone have any comments on the possibilities of a combination between Qualcomm and CSCO? Qualcomm's IPR combined with Cisco's products and services and customer base could enable Qualcomm to see its market value reflected in its stock price.

TIA for any comments on this possibility. I apologize if this has already been discussed.
