All I can say is--- after owning this machine about 2 months the Sportster Modem started giving me a problem. I called DELL on a Sunday morning at approximately 3AM. Monday morning at 10AM a tech arrived from nearly 100 miles away with new modem in hand and replaced it. The one business day repair that is hardly ever mentioned WORKS GREAT! The repairman drove 1 3/4 hours and found my place in the suburbs of the country near the hills of nowhere changed parts ,, said sign here please and was gone! ... my next one will be a DELL too and that IS SERVICE....

Jinx3d, as I understand the situation, a BIOS chip contains the code that is need to start a computer when the power is turned on. In other words, the BIOS is used to boot the system so the Operating System can be loaded and used. BIOS stands for "Basic Input Output System". Therefore, a computer without a Bios installed just won't start. It won't pass any sort of factory or QC test that I know of. Whether or not the Bios chip is a Dell standard, or customer special doesn't matter. If Dell installed their standard Bios chip, and so tested the computer, than everything would appear to be normal at the factory. However, if the customer had some special requirement, then a problem might show up at the customer's site. However, in any event, I would have expected the computer to boot up and load the Operating System. Then, when the customer wanted to perform some sort of special operation that required further use of the Bios, they may have seen the problem.

In any event, I hope you get an answer from Dell and post it on this thread.
