Republicans, led by Hyde, McCallum, Bar, Hutchinson, and the rest of the House Managers, have proceeded from shooting themselves in the foot politically, in the House of Representatives to shooting themselves in the mouth in the Senate. It is clear that, if they can't remove the President, they will continue to do whatever they can to humiliate the man by whatever dirty and unfair tactics they can manage. They continue to claim they are only doing their "duty" but that excuse for partisan viciousness will not wash. The people will continue to repudiate them. They are going to be the minority party in the future for a very long time. Nobody will want to be associated with a party who is willing to do this.
