Thanks, Jeff. I'm in no way attempting to question your skills as an operator. What I'm trying to get at is if a company interfaces with you and sends you a data file that has data that is correct regarding format, is within the parameters or controls set within the program, but is inaccurate, how in the world can it be caught? It doesn't get kicked out to an exception file because their is no trigger event. No system crash, not even an error notification. Nonetheless, it's still inaccurate and can be merged in with your other data files, corrupting their integrity, too. And if you pass this corrupted file along to another organization, who updates their records and passes it to ..... . As you said, this is not a virus but it could be a big pain in the butt, anyway, right? The point is that if your business partners aren't Year 2000 ready and send you incorrect data, which could, of course, happen at any time, it will likely be something your firm will have to deal with. Although, not knowing the business interrelationships your firm is involved in, it might not be an applicable situation for you. Regards. (What is your firm doing regarding contingency planning activities for Y2K? TIA.)
