I'm pondering three short picks for 1999 so far

-NSOL (now $121, target $40)
-TMX (now $48, target $28)
-QTRN (now $48, target $20)

Sure while amidst a bull market, shorts are more treated as moving trading shorts and static price targets are difficult to estimate.

Longs: Depending on interest rate developments, credit spread movements and any positive surprise on consumer credit quality, beaten down specialty financiers and mortgate vendors may get a thrift. Sure, a darn risky play when companies risk the loss of the entire book meanwhile.

Roger...

Long Picks:

I agree with you on FSTW and I will add ODIS.

Roger,

You know one of my long picks will be FSTW also, but not sure I would go short now or right after the first of the year! You may want to say I will short AMZN at such and such a price instead of naming it on Jan. 1st as one of your short picks! Still very bullish on the market and the internets will kill all shorts for the time being! My only long position in the internet sector is TGLO and I'm thinking and hoping for a short squeeze in it at some point in time as most other internet stocks have been squeezed after becoming marginable!
