Clinton's ratings had gone even higher.

It comes as no surprise to me that Clinton has and continues to strike a cord with the majority of Americans. I'm 45 yrs old, close to the tail end of the baby boom but old enough to experience much of it. There has not been a successful move to the center of the political landscape before in my life. I remember hiding under my school desk with my coat over my head for the civil defense drills, observing Vietnam war protests from just far enough away to smell the tear gas, and the champagne block parties that broke out when Nixon resigned. When I got on my own I was hit with inflation of a scale that I had no intrinsic idea how much money anything was worth followed by the biggest borrow and spending spree the country had ever seen.

Clinton has been a breath of fresh air in a tortured history. I didn't agree with all his proposals but they all seemed like honest attempts make our country a better place. I've been mightly peeved at the forces which prefer to slander and obstruct instead of proposing useful modifications or original ideas.
