Not suggesting a short sale right now, or any time soon. However, I do like to point out that despite the hype, the simple fact is that this company (and most e-tailers) have not proven that they can make money with their business model.

I remember when AMZN was talking about profitability in 1998 (!) or early 1999. Now they're out beyond 2000 and are less and less willing to put any kind of a date on it.

Being the dominant player doesn't matter if the business is inherently unprofitable. There is a fair amount of research into the idea of a "core less" business -- one where you NEVER reach any kind of equalibrium which allows consistent profitability. Like the airlines, you're caught between your dumbest competitors, your suppliers, and the customers for whom brand loyalty doesn't matter in the face of cheaper prices.
