B: Brazil: Dell to start up local production

Dell Computer has decided to anticipate its coming to the Brazilian
market where it will set up a plant in Alvorada, Rio Grande do Sul
state to cost investments of R$128mil with a capacity to produce
250,000 units py. The company decided to set up a provisory facility at
Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul that will start assembling computers
early 1999, making time while the Alvorada plant is being built. Dell
Computer will earmark its output for the domestic market and exports to
the Mercosur trade block, and estimates the installed PCs basis at
1.3mil in Brazil with a growth of 11% - 15% in 1998.
