Maybe we're simply not connecting here, no disrespect intended. A simple example: I work in a large financial institution.

The sorts of examples I think of are from my days in large financial institutions that are (I assume) exchanging large amounts of data...

I'd say get hold of your production job streams (fat chance!). Sight unseen I'd guess there are several pre-processing double checks for data validation before the files are accepted into the system.

Any large institution that hasn't gone over it's external data input validation proceedures with a fine toothed comb to prevent trouble is simply beyond help.
