Jack,

I was thinking the same thing. But, they only have about $11m in cash.

FYI, I was speaking to a friend this morning who is familiar with this business. He said that he felt that the management at NOV was getting better and probably better than others in the industry. So, it makes me wonder a little more.... why is this stock so cheap?

If you're right about not going bankrupt, and in the absence of outright fraud that seems unlikely, the smart play might be in the 5.5% bond due 1/15/00. That's less than 13 months away, and with the bond about 69, you get a current yield of almost 8%, and a capital gain of about 45% in 13 months.
