The Monticello Nuclear plant in Minnesota has the following non-compliant critical systems:
Four units that control a test probe tipped with radioactive
material. The probe is inserted inside the reactor to measure
"neutron flux," a measure of how fast the fission reaction is
going.

A "reactor manual control sequencing timer" that controls the
way in which boron rods (which have a dampening effect on
nuclear fission) can be withdrawn from the reactor to speed up
the nuclear reaction.

A programmable "feedwater controller" that controls how
much water gets into the nuclear reactor to be heated.

A device that regulates water pressure inside the reactor.

Motor controllers that run the water-recirculation pumps that
feed water to the nuclear reactor.

Two flow controllers for the recirculation pumps that send
more water to be heated in the reactor (the faster water moves
through the reactor, the more electricity it generates.)

It is my understanding that this plant and all other nuclear power plants must be in compliance by July of 1999 or the NRC is obligated
to shut them down by law.Does anyone know what per cent of the power grid is nuclear?Does anyone know what would happen if any of these non-compliant systems were to fail?I have a particular interest in this plant as I am downwind of it(Northern Michigan)TIA
