[Advanced Radio Telecom Launches Internet Services in Portland]

Businesses Get "One Stop Shopping" for Internet Services

BELLEVUE, WASH. (December 21, 1998) Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. [NASDAQ:ARTT], one of the nation's fast-growing broadband wireless Internet Services Providers, announced today that it is offering high-speed Internet services to businesses in the Portland metropolitan area.

ART is a facilities-based, broadband ISP providing a direct connection between the customer premise and the Internet. For most companies, this eliminates the need for having two separate vendors -- one for Internet services and one for dedicated access. In addition, by integrating broadband wireless and fiber optic technologies with a packet-switched IP and ATM network architecture, ART can provide small to medium-sized businesses with tremendous value for advanced Internet communications products and services.

"ART is entering the Portland market with a tremendous push," said Henry "Harry" C. Hirsch, chairman and CEO, ART. "We are ready to provide Portland companies with a full suite of Internet services that will meet or exceed their need for speed and simplify their current service offerings."

ART's offering combines a high-speed connection to the Internet or intranet with enhanced services such as e-mail, web hosting, IP Fax and domain name registration so that businesses can do "one stop shopping" for all their data services. To date, 15 companies in the Portland area have signed contracts for ART services.

"We are pleased, but not surprised by how our services are being received," said Hirsch. "Once we are able to demonstrate our high-speed, highly reliable, dedicated Internet access service, it is tough for companies to turn back the clock to their slow, bottlenecked data access. The technology is real, reliable, and can be installed quickly."

ART successfully launched its new broadband metropolitan area network in September in the Seattle-metro area, where it converted 85 percent of its pilot customers into commercial customers. ART has since signed on more than 40 additional customers to the Seattle-metro area network. ART also officially launched services into the Phoenix area on December 18.
