No, the jackass was courtesy of Thomas Nast who penned the monikers for both parties. I don't know if Jackson was his inspiration but it was Nast who created these symbols. I believe Jackson was attributed with the National Bank and how this subsequently was blamed for a very bad economic period in American history.
