Giraffe : Your oil scenario is undoubtedly true but cheap oil equals low inflation and low inlation means cheap (un-needed) gold. According to the argument, therefore, the gold price should bear a relationship pari passu to the oil price and the CRB, but lately it doesn't --- in fact it's firmer than one would have expected in terms of that relationship.
