Foolish Speculation ? Listen, I was commenting on information
contained in the Infoworld article. No speculation on my
part. The article even said their source was an SGI representative,
earlier in the article, although not in the paragraph with the prices.
It was published information with SGI Model numbers.
The darn article had $5,999 as the price for a quad Xeon.
I did a previous post in which I tried to show how that
approx 7K might be a valid price if it referred to a base model,
not a loaded machine. (Someone had mentioned the possibility of
a 7K xeon, 1K more that the Infoworld price, so I used that
figure instead and added in a bigger hard disk in my pricing).

I didn't misread the article. It had $5,999.00 for the price.
I've posted two references to Infoworld articles recently.
Perhaps you looked up the article that did not contain
prices. Obviously I did not speculate and make this up as
you sort of implied.

What I meant by the "The Dell price you quoted is most likely
correct" was a nice way of pointing out that as far as I can
tell Dell does not have a quad Xeon workstation. I thought
you were getting the comparison confused with their quad Xeon
*server* machines. Apples and Oranges. I meant your price
would most likely be accurate *if* Dell actually sold a
quad Xeon workstation. If you don't know the difference between
a server and workstation then email me and I'll send you a
short beginner's tutorial.

have a merry xmas.
