JDN: It was not so much my perseverance as AOL's. They kept sending me letters saying "Come Back" that they had improved, with new software and free trials of up to 50 hours. They have improved, as of last week, but I still uninstalled after ten hours of the latest free trial because it is still inferior. Most consultants in the UK strongly advise not using AOl (or Microsoft). They recommended smaller UK based servers with much less content but greater speed and reliability.

In the UK one pays for local calls, so all the scores of connections one makes to AOL, only to be kept frozen and then disconnected after 5-10 mins, costs money. My first lengthy trial with them produced literally hundreds of dollars worth of abortive telephone connections over a three months period. (There were dozens of attempts when I could not get connected at all). They won't recompense for these connections but they will cancel out all their own charges if one complains.
