[fujitsu brand modems and other fujitsu dsl silicon]

Hi SoMo

thought this modem might have been the one with that spiffy new plastic box that you saw at israel telecom... ;) .. thanks for confirming..

the modem shown illustrated in the installation manual for "US ADSL end-users" does indeed have "fujitsu" as the brand with the "dsl by orckit" prominantly placed.. find fujitsu on the box reassuring (as will the american public)

Mad Bomber has good eyes... (thanks MB)

by any chance do you know if these modems are made in israel? think this more likely than fujitsu manufacturing them (oem)... but you never know..
---

and yes, i also think we are getting very close to the release of the new fujitsu adsl silicon... no doubt you noticed that the press release for keywave had the "single-chip ADSL modem scheduled for January 1999"... interestingly the MB86626 KeyWave AFE is not needed for the adsl single-chip solution which will have its analog front end integrated in the chip itself (an adsl silicon first).. this will (i believe) mean that the fujitsu adsl chipset will have one less discrete component than any other on the market or expected near term... believe the fujitsu chip will have a separate linedriver... so total chip count will be two... ala and mot for example will need a separate analog front end and their published chip counts are coming in at three... for fully functional modem.. (not counting memory?).. in any case we should hear soon enuf now...

in the fall of last year fujitsu mentioned in their newsletter that they were working with orctf on "companion chips" to the adsl chip... am guessing that the keywave could be one... and another might be the MB86976 Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL) WAN Ethernet Bridge Controller..
