Is it allowed for a Democrat to mention the words "Holy Season of Christmas" ? Oh, oh, cracks in the armor. First they pass Impeachment Article 3 and now... religion.

Scary. :-)

Harvey, interesting article. thanks. While the White House spin machine lines up behind Larry Flynn (of Hustler magazine) and his good buddy James Carville, I believe the Republicans are standing on pretty solid ground with regard to the way history will judge them. They have taken the courageous road vs bending to polling numbers because the principles this country was founded on are too important to allow one person to destroy.

Honesty, Trust, Trustworthiness, courage and integrity are traits endemic to all successful leaders. We have elected a leader who is hollow to the core in the most important characteristics you can have. This whole episode demonstrates more clearly than any book written by Bill Bennett that "Character matters". I sincerely hope we as a people will learn from this experience.

The country club Republicans like Dole and Ford are wrong too. Censureship to a hollow person like Clinton would be completely meaningless. It's time Republicans lined up behind leaders with courage like Alan Keyes and dropped the old boy network which has plagued them the last two elections.

Michael

Yes, I agree that a Senate trial is an absolute must. It provides clarity to the process as well as legitimacy to the outcome.

It also helps us how the system holds up when it is put to this test. To use a software analogy, this situation is like a testcase that increases the percentage of code that is covered -- an integral requirement in testing the robustness of any software package.

As it is with software, so it is with the Constitution -- putting it throught the test is for our own good.

He should also have added an extra bit of advice to Republicans -- turn off the TV set and stop your newspaper subscriptions, for Larry Flynt might drop a huge bombshell on Christmas Eve... :-)
