That was the point I was making. US Govt may get involved and prevent ground station hardware sales or local telcos fom billing US concerns but the phones will still work in 'bad' countries.

Same situation with G*. Personally, I think the fixed stations will be big boost to G*, 'the village phone' will be cheap for govts really interested in helping their people. Imagine how useful they could have been in Central America after the hurricane or set up at an earthquake site. Did I read somewhere that I* tried to donate some phones but could only come up with a few (less than 10 as I recall)
