victor. OT+OT+OT. Re: "Relations with the other European countries was also difficult - they are already very critical that Britain works so closely with the US and suspicious that Britain will never be fully European while it maintains these American links." Does anybody in England worry that the economic "merger" in Europe will upset the balance of power, something England has historically paid a lot of attention too?

With the conversion to the Euro and a Franco-German bloc, who will offset German power on the continent? It ain't Russia and England can't do it alone IMHO.

Victor,

The US and UK will always stand up for each other when no one else will......the mother and child thing. UK is still the mother country to the US and always will be. We have derived much of our society from the UK, some things we do very well, may have even improved on a thing or two, and some things, we haven't done as well. The US and UK are linked in history for over the last 200 years......and I would be willing to bet, that they will be over the next 200 years.

I was touched about reading your post on the dangers that Britain experienced in the Persian Gulf conflict. I feel even worse that Britain was involved with Helping Bill Clinton and was used. Didn't you notice that "victory "was declared right after the impeachment vote. The UNSCOMM report went to Clinton before the UN. There were actually 400 inspections that occurred and 5 that were blocked. We weren't told either. Bill had ample opportunity to go to Congress since last Spring, when he put our military on 3 day alert to be ready when to go after Iraq when it was needed for political reasons. He never did. We would have been bombing earlier When Monica was ready to testify but our fearless leader sent cruise missiles into Africa and bombed the hell out of an aspirin factory. Everybody that gets involved with him gets sullied and dirty.
sorry about that.
