nihil, That is the nub of the case. Intel has already been exposed as placing the speed limits off die but in slot case as has been shown with early celeron limited versions where a small speck of tape pulled a resistor high and bypassed the speed limit(from Tom's hardware page) . Obviously it is possible to place a small flash area in the woodwork to do this too and make it only probe settable. It would take some work to do this, or some leaks from inside intel.
