Jackson-He was Scotch-Irish, a protestant. Some Irish people might
not think of him as being truly Irish. (The Scotch-Irish were immigrants themselves in Ireland) The legend of the Red Hand of Ulster
is in reference to the Scots coming to what is now Northern Ireland.
