Here's some additional info I've found... "The Hollywood Reporter" carried two articles concerning LGF in its "International Extra Edition" dated January 8-10, prompted by the fact that at three of the company's films have just received a total of 11 nominations for the "Independent Spirit Awards" -- which are major awards presented strictly for "independent" films. That's more nominations than were received by ANY other independent-film distributor -- the next-closest was "October Films" with eight, followed by "Miramax" and "Sony Classics" tied at seven nominations each. The winners will be announced at the awards-show on March 20-th (in Los Angeles). Most of the 11 nominations went to "Gods and Monsters" (which has also won several Golden-Globe nominations, and for which star Ian McKellan will probably also get an Oscar nomination), and "Affliction" (starring Nick Nolte, in another widely-praised performance). Both films got "Spirit" nominations for "Best Picture" and for the leading stars, along with a bunch of other categories (for supporting performers, and various other things including a best director-nod for Paul Schrader for "Affliction"), Unfortunately, the articles don't specify the title of the third LGF film that was among the "Spirit" nominees. "The Reporter" article says that until just over a year ago LGF was a little-known outfit called "Cinepix Film Properties." 1998 marked its first year as a full-fledged distributor in North America -- and the "Reporter" says the 11 Spirit nominations (along with lots ot critics' awards, Golden Globe nominations, and likely Oscar nominations) are a "major accomplishment" for a company in such an early stage of development. ALSO: copied below is a January 6-th company-PR that includes lots of other useful info about LGF's various projects and production-and-distribution deals with some American TV networks -- it makes for good reading, and includes a lot more "titles" from the impressive list of films the company has already released...
