If it does so, the company obtains the right to market ZAP products in an eight-state area: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. According to California-based American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the two-passenger hybrid code-named the "VV" uses an improved version of the company's "Integrated Motor Assist" (IMA) system first shown in 1997 in Honda's "J-VX" concept car (News Notes 9/19, 9/30 & 10/23/97). The VV uses an "extremely efficient" 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine that is assisted by an electric motor during acceleration. Honda's press release says the aluminum-and-plastic-bodied VV is also "engineered to meet California's Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle standard." Following today's unveiling in Japan, the VV will next be shown at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Reuters article indicates the VV will launch first in Japan, then within a year in foreign markets; American Honda's press release doesn't indicate a delay for U.S. customers. 1.0 LITER!!!! 3 CYLINDER!!!!!
