I also have had 4 family members on Prednisone for treatment of lupus, arthritis, asthma and MS. Prednisone does not cure or halt these diseases but reduces the symptoms by reducing the effectiveness of the immune system (which in these cases is screwed up). Prednisone causes loss of bone mass and other side effects. But the main problem with Prednisone (or any imunosuppresents)is that by supressing the immune system it allows opportunistic infections to be unchecked (as in AIDS).

Thus any treatment which does NOT suppress the immune system is far better for the patient providing its side effects are minimal and it is as effective.

Regards,
Bob
