i wish i could be of more help, but since no one else seems to have stepped up to the plate, i'll give you what i've got. the area that you refer to is called the system tray. i believe that icons find their way there if the corresponding program is included in the startup menu. at any rate, some of the icons show up there, if not all. occasionally, upon installation of a new program, a choice is offered as to whether or not you wish to have the icon displayed in the system tray. btw, the filename for system tray is systray. so i would recommend seeing if you can get the new program included on your startup menu, then the icon will probably be there.

sorry if the above is not too comprehensive, or if it does not address your problem. usually someone on this thread comes forward with the answer. let us know what you found out, okay?
