Intel To Slash Celeron Prices
(12/22/98, 2:41 p.m. ET)
By Mark Harrington, Computer Retail Week
Intel told PC makers Monday that it will slash the prices of new and existing Celeron chips to within a hairsbreadth of rival Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) K6-2, according to a source briefed by the company.

"The big news is Intel is serious about Celeron because they're actually dropping the most popular processors in the line to at or below that of the K6," said the source.
