So far, as most of the producing companies announce their cutbacks in spending for 1999, they are universally saying that they are maintaining their deepwater, and much of OCS spending. Perhaps a signal that the offshore service companies' earnings will not be hit as hard in '99 as the market expects.

Platter: Indeed looking better here, but the key will be how we close. A final hour selloff would be very bearish technically. But if we hold the gains or even add to them then perhaps the worst is over and another strong run will be underway.
