Sam, you'll notice on most if not all BBs, when the price is under .50 the standard unit of trading is 5000 shares, over .50 to $1.00 the unit drops to 2500 shares and over $1.00 it becomes 500 shares.
These levels do not mean that the size is only the amount the MM will trade, rather an investor knows that the bid or offer is good for at least that size.

It is good when they drop the ask. Means there is a shortage of shares and that the price is likely to trend higher.
