mj, I am sorry to hear about your problems and unfortunately understand them too well.

Our youngest son was diagnosed with systemic lupus when he was 17. He went through college and died one year later at age 22 (6 years ago). He died from a common airbourn spoor that we easily fight off, but his immune system was almost non functioning due to high doses of prednesone and immurane to control his lupus.

Our youngest daughter (Steph) was diagnosed with systemic lupus one year after Chris was diagnosed. She is doing pretty well, is on moderate doses of prednesone. She has a 4 year old daughter (Nicole) who has an alergy to the sun and just got pneumonia two days ago.

Our oldest son Mike was diagnosed with MS a year ago. He is on a beta interferon (sp?) and the disease doesn't appear to be progressing further (he lost some vision). He and his wife have two young children.

My wife (Gloria)and second oldest daughter (Lori) have asthma. Gloria also has RA.

My wife and I are having our 40th wedding anniversary next month and all of our surviving children (4) and grandchildren (7) will be there.

We still cry over the death of Chris and worry about our children and grandchildren but we laugh and enjoy life. I babysit Nicole once or twice a week and thoroughly enjoy doing it. Gloria and I have been lupus support group leaders for 10 years.

I hope that you and your family have a very merry christmas.

Warmest regards,
Bob
