Emile-

<<It is now clear that the American establishment is a very evil, possibly the most evil in the world. Our greatest sin is our constant moralizing and pretension of having the moral high ground. >>

A patently absurd idea. For the faults of the "American establishment", the US government is a long way from being the worst in the world. As government's go it's actually not bad. At least we have rule of law, and used to have system of laws that applied to all citizens. There are scores of governments in the world that do not respect the most basic of human rights, making ours seem positively moral by comparison. Despite the best efforts of Sleazebag Bill, the US has not become a giant kleptocracy, and the Clintons' $100,000 in rigged commodity trades pales to practical insignificance compared to Suharto's family's tens of billions of dollars. Saddam's government routinely murdered people it found inconvenient. Compared to these activities, "constant moralizing" is hardly a great crime.

<<Only a return to our Christian roots will free us from this moral collapse.>>

I see, only Christians can be moral. You are free to your opinion, I just don't think I'm much interested in it.

Is the the kind of shoddy logic I should expect from people who affect the inability to distinguish between a fetus and a baby?

<<return to our Christian roots will free us from this moral collapse>>

Huh?

We are the most "Christian" country on the planet. Much good it does us.

It takes more than a given brand of worship to live up to a moral code, and that can be done with or without Christianity. Frankly, I think it takes hard work, lots of reading, lots of thinking and lots more than a diet of soap operas and football games to come to a moral code of conduct.

You are right in that it would be nice to see more people walk the walk as well as talking the talk. But I could care less what faith they profess. Remember, this is America, land of religious freedom, not land of Christians. I'd be happy if we all became trustworthy, morally reliable fetish worshippers
