Alcatel, Loral Wrap Up Europe*Star Deal

Alcatel and Loral Space & Communications completed negotiations for the formation of Europe*Star, a new satellite-services company that will compete with the likes of PanAmSat anmd Intelsat.

Europe*Star will provide video broadcast and telecommunications services throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, India and Southeast Asia. It will be a member of the Loral Global Alliance, a network comprising the satellite capacity of Loral Skynet, which includes Telstar and Orion satellites, and SatMex.

As a member of the alliance, Europe*Star will provide global satellite solutions, while focusing on the local and inter-regional needs within its coverage regions.

The launch of the Europe*Star 1 satellite is scheduled for mid-2000. A second satellite, Europe*Star 2, is expected to be launched in 2002 and will be co-located with Europe*Star 1 at 45 degrees East.

JeffK, I saw this on ReplayTVs site....this ought to keep the patent office busy for a little while......

Replay Networks has filed for over 120 patent claims in the area of
ReplayTV and Personal Television.

A nice idea, but I don't see where it would take 120 patents to cover it?
