You are contradicting yourself, I like the ads, I own the stock, I am in the majority based on your post above.

Gee. Let's get argumentative. OK - I can do that.

My point is this. The majority of those who see LU's ads are not stockholders. Therefore the stockholders are a minority - and a vast one at that. That is my point, plain and simple. If LU gains stockholder support from their campaigns then I see no argument that could persuade me to believe that the end result for the stockholder is anything other than ancillary. LU's advertisements are of the 'soft' genre of public relations. Another good example is BASF with their upfront honesty "We don't make these things - we make these things better". Other than the very occasional reel of recording tape I do not think I have ever purchased a BASF product.

Anyway, this horse now has rigor mortis but it does make a better 'thwack' sound when I beat it.

News December 22, 21:11 Eastern Time
DEC 22, 1998, M2 Communications - BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies today announced a final assembly program for U. S. distributors that will allow faster delivery of DEFINITY ProLogix Solutions through dealers and resellers. Three distributors, Pinacor, Catalyst Telecom and North American Communications Resource (NACR), are now authorized to perform final assembly, configuration and system testing for the DEFINITY ProLogix, a full-featured PBX telecommunications system for small to mid-sized businesses. Inacom is expected to complete the authorization process in January, 1999.

Lucent will supply authorized distributors with DEFINITY ProLogix systems that have a basic configuration. When an order for a DEFINITY ProLogix is placed by a dealer, the distributor will then configure the basic system according to customer specifications, installing hardware components such as circuit packs and downloading software to provide advanced functionality, and test the equipment.

Requirements for authorization in the program were developed using guidelines supplied by Bell Laboratories and the Lucent Logistics Organization. Criteria include documentation of processes, testing for sound environmental conditions and demonstrated knowledge of DEFINITY products. Authorization procedures, including periodic on-site visits, are carried out by the Lucent Logistics Organization.

"Final assembly is part of our broader strategy to expand the Lucent BusinessPartners program and increase sales generated through the value-added reseller channel," said Edison Peres, Lucent vice president of Distribution Development and Management. "Research shows that businesses like to buy telecommunications equipment from a variety of sources, including local dealers. By making it easier for the channel to provide custom-configured products quickly and cost-effectively, we're making Lucent a more attractive choice for resellers and their customers."

Lucent Technologies, headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and private networks, communications systems and software, data networking systems, business telephone systems and microelectronic components. Bell Labs is the research and development arm of the company. For more information about Lucent Technologies, visit the company's web site at lucent.com.
