Carville actually played a large role in his movie. I never actually watched the horrid thing myself.

The movie was not about sex. It was about First Amendment rights. Flynt is portrayed as a foul-mouthed porn merchant. The message is that even a person like Flynt has every right to express himself.

The unbiased viewer comes out with the feeling that while one may find Flynt and what he does for a living to be utterly disgusting, one has to defend Flynt's right to say whatever he wants to say, lest one day we find that we are deprived of our own right to free speech.
